Blizzard has officially revealed a major revamp to Diablo 4’s Battle Pass system. As part of Season 8, launching April 29, players will get access to an all-new feature called the Reliquary System, replacing the current tiered structure with a more dynamic and customizable progression path.
Previously, Diablo 4’s Battle Pass included 90 tiers, with 28 of those available to all players for free and 90 to those who purchased the premium or accelerated version. These tiers offered rewards like Smoldering Ashes, armor transmogs, headstones, and mounts — but progression was locked into a fixed path.
Now, all that is about to change.
What Is the Reliquary System?
The Reliquary System replaces the linear Battle Pass with a modular structure. Instead of unlocking rewards in a fixed sequence, players can now choose which items they want to claim and in any order.
Each Reliquary functions as a themed vault of cosmetics and upgrades. You earn Favor Tokens — a new seasonal currency — and spend them to unlock rewards. Once you’ve claimed all the rewards in a Reliquary, a Bonus Reward becomes available.

Each Reliquary is essentially a theme-based mini Battle Pass with its own visual and class-based rewards, giving players the chance to personalize their seasonal grind.
Favor Tokens: How You Progress
To claim rewards, players will need Favor Tokens, which can be earned through:
- Defeating enemies and bosses
- Completing seasonal quests
- Participating in new Season 8 events
Each item within a Reliquary costs a small number of tokens, and tokens can be spent in any order, removing the forced progression found in previous seasons.
Favor Tokens are capped at 99 to encourage steady use, and once you clear a Reliquary, you unlock its bonus reward.
Guise of the Deceiver Armor Set
This exclusive armor set is visually striking, featuring a haunting combination of black and blue tones, dramatic horned headpieces, pointed shoulder pads, and clawed golden gauntlets. It’s available piece-by-piece as bonus rewards or instantly through the Deluxe Bundle.
This transmog set represents the thematic centerpiece of the new Battle Pass system.
What Else to Expect in Season 8
Blizzard isn’t stopping with the Battle Pass overhaul. Season 8, Belial’s Return, is bringing a wide array of content updates, including:
- New Questline: Centered around Belial, the Lord of Lies
- Apparition Incursions: Seasonal open-world events
- New Unique Items and Legendary Aspects: One for each class
- Gameplay Balance Updates: Nerfs to overpowered builds and quality-of-life improvements
- Collaborations: Limited-time Reliquaries tied to events and a crossover with the BERSERK franchise
This is the most expansive and player-driven seasonal update since Diablo 4 launched.
Monetization & Fairness
While the premium Reliquaries and Deluxe Bundle are paid, Blizzard has made it clear that all gameplay-relevant progression remains unaffected. Favor Tokens cannot be purchased — only earned — ensuring fair competition and rewarding active players.
Cosmetics, pets, portals, and transmogs are the focus here, offering aesthetic upgrades and bragging rights rather than gameplay advantages.
Conclusion: A Welcome Change for the Diablo Community
The new Reliquary Battle Pass system is a major step forward for Diablo 4. It’s clear Blizzard is listening to its community and taking a modern, player-first approach to seasonal content. With full customization, flexible pacing, and epic rewards — Season 8 might be the most rewarding season yet.
Whether you’re grinding solo or teaming up with friends, there’s never been a better time to return to Sanctuary.
